On Tuesday, May 13th, Rob Golder from Lydtech delivered an impactful talk at the 10th Anniversary of the South West Test meetup. His presentation, titled "The Component Test Framework", highlighted an often overlooked testing layer - namely component testing. More focused than system testing and more integrated than unit and local integration tests, Rob demonstrated why component testing deserves a place in your testing toolkit. He showed how Lydtech's own open source Component Test Framework (available on GitHub and Maven Central) makes writing and running these tests both fast and effective.
During his talk, Rob explained why adding this intermediate testing layer can catch integration issues early with the application deployed in a containerised environment that can simulate Production, integrating with real external resources like Postgres and Kafka. He walked attendees through the Component Test Framework, and demonstrated how its straightforward API accelerates both the authoring and execution of component tests.
A lively crowd of testers, developers and IT professionals turned out for the evening’s event, enjoying pizza and drinks sponsored by SR2 while networking before the talks began. We extend our thanks to the South West Test organizers for hosting another engaging session and look forward to future opportunities to share insights with this vibrant community.
